There is no love sincerer than the love of food. -George Bernard Shaw
Julia Child said that people who love food are always the best people. She’s right. However, what’s even better than ‘the best people’, is the sweetest people. I like to think there’s a correlation between being a sweet person and having a sweet tooth – though there’s no evidence indicating this to be true. So if you happen to be a sweetheart, have a sweet tooth, or simply want to test this theory, stop by King’s Road to try some gelato from Amorino, pancakes from My Old Dutch, and macarons from Ladurée.
Raise your hand if you like gelato. Raise your hand if you like natural and healthy foods. Raise your hand if you like flowers.
If you raised your hand for all three, then this is the place for you. Not only is the gelato here mouthwateringly delicious, it is also served in the shape of a rose.
You can choose as many flavours as you want and the amazing servers will craft them into the shape of a rose on your cone.
Amorino also features seasonal flavours, such as lemon and basil, which despite my friend’s disgusted reaction, I found to be heavenly. All of their gelato is made with natural ingredients, organic eggs, fresh milk, selected fruits and no artificial colours or flavours. You can also order waffles, crepes, milkshakes, frappés or focaccine.
The upstairs area has a lovely seating area where you can lounge and read a wide selection of books from the well stocked shelves. The area is air-conditioned and private, therefore a good place to meet up with friends and have a long chat.
My Old Dutch
My friends and I decided to go there for a late breakfast before visiting the Victoria and Albert Museum – which is only a hop and a skip away – and it was absolutely delectable. Tending to prefer savoury foods, I rarely eat pancakes, but I have to say that pancakes from My Old Dutch have me questioning this preference.
My Old Dutch is a homey, warm and friendly pancake house that you’ll only find in three locations in London. The menu is expansive and offers sweet and savoury pancakes, salads, shakes and smoothies, and most importantly desserts.
The pancakes are great because they are light and fluffy and are not sickeningly sweet. They are well presented and appealing to the eye which combined with the charm of the Dutch decorated locale makes them taste even better.

Okay, this isn’t actually on King’s Road, it’s in Harrods, but it’s only a short walk away and so worth it. You haven’t tasted a macaron until you’ve tasted a Ladurée macaron. From fan favourite flavours like vanilla, pistachio and chocolate, to seasonal flavours like orange blossom, strawberry marshmallow and earl grey, they’ll all leave you wanting more.
The added benefit of Ladurée being in Harrods is that after you enjoy your afternoon tea with your macarons, just steps away, a shopping spree is waiting for you!
So ladies and gentlemen, to help with the post indulgence guilt, justremember that stressed spelled backwards is desserts. I hope this helps you test my theory.
